Earsay created ‘The Pat Bougeard Achievement Award’ in 2012, to be presented annually to the dDeaf child or young person who deserves recognition for achieving something special during the year.
After four nominations were judged by an independent third party, Earsay are very pleased to announce the 2025 award winner is Jayson Jouny, age 9. Jayson was nominated by his parents Karly & Dale and very proud auntie Zoe for always facing everything positively and being a great role model for the deaf community. He has worked hard and adapted to changing environments with his hearing aids and will always explain about them to others who ask questions. He has thrived this year learning to roller blade and making the Bel Royal football team, as well as progressing well with swimming by reading body language and listening without hearing aids in the pool. His family are super proud of his positive attitude and caring nature to others. Earsay are pleased to award this year’s Pat Bougeard Achievement Award to Jayson and wish him well for the future ahead.
The runner up nominees for the Earsay Pat Bougeard Achievement Award 2025 were:
Mason McNaney – nominated by his mum Michaela. Mason has demonstrated such strength and courage overcoming challenges this year. No matter what’s put in front of him he always carries on positively with a smile and a kind heart. His role as a school council rep has helped him show real leadership, grow in confidence and make a difference in the school community. His family are very proud of his achievements this year.
Victor Caraman – nominated by the Teacher of the Deaf, Rupi Dhami and his class Teacher Miss Williams. Victor’s transition into Year 5 with a new teacher was daunting but he overcame any worries confidently and settled in well. Miss Williams is extremely proud of Victor being the ‘class superhero’, always passionate and full of energy to approach new things. She was also impressed by Victor’s skills playing his musical instrument at the Corn Riot festival and performing the Centurian with gusto in the Roman assembly at school.
Adalynn Rowe – nominated by the Teacher of the Deaf, Rupi Dhami and her class Teacher Miss Dufty. Adalynn is nominated for her determination to keep working hard and achieve good outcomes, including learning all of her phonics this year. She is a quietly confident learner who has a hugely positive presence in her classroom and also a very positive influence on her younger brother who is also a hearing aid user. At school she is one of the kindest girls always looking out to help other learners and adults.
Earsay are so proud of all our nominated members and the superb individual achievements, big or small, they have made this year.
Nominations for Earsay’s 2026 Award can be made later in the year by anyone, teacher/parent/club leader etc and is awarded at the Earsay Christmas party celebration in December. A separate Nominations post will be on the website in October.
