Nominations Required! The Pat Bougeard Achievement Award 2021

News
May 12, 2021

Earsay are very proud of Pat Bougeard, our only deaf committee member, who in 2012 was licensed as a lay reader with the Diocese of Winchester. She was the first deaf person to achieve this distinction, which required three years of intensive study, and provided many challenges along the way. She is also a fantastic role model for our deaf children, always ready to volunteer her time to help others in the deaf community.

To mark her phenomenal accomplishment, and to be a great legacy from our 40th year celebrations in 2012, Earsay created ‘The Pat Bougeard Achievement Award’to be presented annually to the dDeaf child or young person who has achieved something fantastic during the year. We know that everyone is different and that every achievement is personal, but a child’s‘best’ achievement of the year can be celebrated.

We are now looking to receive nominations for 2021 – which again has been a slightly different year for everyone.Anyone can let us know of a dDeaf child or young person’s special achievement of 2021 – parent, teacher, youth club leader, sibling or professional. We are hoping for lots of nominations, from a variety of sources. Anyone who is in contact with a deaf child or young person can advise us of what they think is their extra special achievement of the year.

Tell us the name of your nominee, what their achievement highlight of 2021 was; what ‘extra’they may have given to attain their goal/ have they had to overcome many hurdles/have they helped others along the way or contributed to raising dDeaf awareness?

The nominee must be a Jersey resident and must have accomplished their achievement since November 2020. Nominationsmay be made to Viv Armstrong, Earsay Secretary by email on [email protected] (please check email address carefully, so we can ensure the nomination is received) or by hard copy to Viv Armstrong, Bramhall House, 9 Hautmont Estate, St Helier, Jersey, JE2 4RG.

Closing date for nominations is Wednesday 1st December 2021, and after this date all nominations will be forwarded to an independent third party who will make the final decision. Th award will be preesnted in January 2022. The winner will receive a personalised gift and our perpetual Earsay shield, as well as their own trophy to keep. All nominations also receive a voucher to acknowledge their efforts.

Any queries, please contact Viv Armstrong on the e-mail above or by mobile on 07797 723163.

We look forward to receiving your nomination
