Our history
We've been supporting hearing impaired children, young adults and their families for 50 years
The “Jersey Society for Deaf Children” was first established in 1972 with the aim of assisting children suffering from deafness or impaired hearing.
In 1992, the name was changed to “Jersey Society for Deaf Children and Young Adults” and the Rules of Association were also updated to enable the charity to extend its support to this age group.
It became clear in 2010 that the charity’s name was too long and difficult to remember. Therefore, it was decided to adopt the shorter and more memorable: “Earsay”.

About the charity
Earsay is a Jersey registered charity set up to promote opportunity and a sense of pride through support to Jersey’s hearing-impaired children, young adults and their families. We want an Island where hearing loss doesn’t create limits or labels. Where the community is integrated and has an awareness of clear and equal communication.
- We offer practical advice and tangible support to hearing-impaired children, young adults and their families
- We provide structured and inspiring events to unite the hearing and hearing impaired
- We inspire, encourage and ensure that hearing impairment does not impact ambition, achievement or self esteem
- We supply communication services and training information
- We raise much needed funds to be able to provide financial support for Jersey families and community events that combine all our ambitions
